Everyone who knows me is aware that I love media and cherish the people behind the scenes as much as the people we see on screen. With this series I want to give people who usually work behind the scenes the spotlight they deserve. I’m kicking this format off with a very special person and I’m super excited for you all to meet her.
Meet Sofia Ninova
Sofia Ninova is one of the most inspiring and kind-hearted people I have had the pleasure to get to know. Entirely self-taught, she has become a remarkable force in the world of modern visual culture. Her journey began at the young age of only seventeen with the viral success of Olivia Rodrigo’s „Drivers License“ lyric video, which catapulted her into the international spotlight.
Sofia’s talents are vast and varied, including directing, storytelling, high-end visual effects, and production management. Her ability to seamlessly blend creative and production roles has allowed her to work on projects that captivate millions of viewers around the globe. She excels in directing, visual effects and post-production, art direction, creative campaign development, and motion graphics, especially when working with Adobe After Effects.

Sofia Ninova (formerly known as Sofia Garbati) was born on 10 December 2002 in Ascoli Piceno and grew up in Comunanza, a small town in the Marche region of central Italy. She attended Osvaldo Licini Art High School in Ascoli Piceno and later enrolled in a VFX college in 2021, but couldn’t attend due to graduating high school. This didn’t hold her back from having a skyrocketing career – her work has appeared on official artist channels across YouTube and Apple Music, amassing hundreds of millions of views. From 2021 onward Ninova has directed and animated visuals for artists including Ariana Grande, Nicki Minaj, Elton John, The Weeknd, Megan Thee Stallion, Cardi B, Lil Baby, Brandi Carlile, Leona Lewis, Ne-Yo, and Jackson Wang. Ninova draws inspiration from philosophy, psychology, and the work of directors such as Damien Chazelle and Paolo Sorrentino.
Musical Collaborations
At the young age of 22 years Sofia has already succeeded one of my fondest dreams since my early adulthood. She’s collaborated with some of the biggest names in the music industry, including Ariana Grande, through which I got to know her in early 2024. Her work for Grande’s Album “Eternal Sunshine” included editing and animating lyric videos and social promos, achieving viral success with millions YouTube views and a tag on Ariana’s Instagram Story. She played a crucial role in the Wicked Original Motion Picture Soundtrack by handling social media videos and creating 12 lyric videos. Her direction and animation work are also evident in projects for Nicki Minaj, Elton John, The Weeknd, Megan Thee Stallion, Cardi B, Drake and many more, showcasing her versatility and impressive skillset.
Fashion, Film, and Global Brands
Sofia’s creative reach extends beyond music, deeply into the realms of fashion, film, and technology. She has contributed her expertise to campaigns for famous brands like Giorgio Armani, Gucci, Versace, and HUGO BOSS. Her talent in VFX, directing, and editing has brought to life numerous campaigns, including a series for Converse and promotional videos for Apple and Spotify.
In the film industry, Sofia has crafted campaigns for major releases such as Wicked, Citadel, and Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore. Her unique vision has also been sought after by Netflix and other entertainment giants, highlighting her influential role in modern storytelling.
Campaign Management and Recognition
Beyond her creative endeavors, Sofia also excels in campaign management. Her role as creative director and campaign manager for Hinge demonstrates her ability to oversee complex projects, from talent sourcing to execution. Her voice has even featured in national campaigns, adding a personal touch to her professional achievements.
Sofia’s work has garnered significant acclaim, earning her a feature in Eyecandy, an international creative publication. Her projects have not only accumulated hundreds of millions of views but have also received endorsements from prominent artists like Olivia Rodrigo and Ariana Grande. Sofia Ninova’s journey is a testament to her dedication, creativity, and the inspiring impact she has on those around her.
She often uses soft-diffused lighting and “glow” textures as recurring motifs, drawing inspiration from philosophy, psychology, and the work of directors such as Damien Chazelle and Paolo Sorrentino
Personal Notes
As I wrote in the beginning: Sofia is not only incredibly and beyond my imagination creative and talented – she is also a very kind person to talk to. Even though she’s already worked with some of the biggest names in the industry, Sofia is a down-to-earth person and an outstanding hardworking woman who deserves every success she has. Recently she also walked the red carpet at the VMAs looking absolutely stunning! Don’t miss the opportunity to follow her on social media (@sofianinova) and cheer for her from early on because if I can say one thing for sure about her, it’s that she’ll go very very far in life and we’ll see her name on the big screen and that she deserves so much more recognition, because she’s a powerhouse of inspiration to many. At least she is that for me and hopefully one day also my friend. 🫶💫
Thank you dear reader for taking the time to read this portrait. 🫶
Lots of Love,
